Performance Studies incorporates theories and methods from the performing arts, cultural studies, and communication. This class explores how performance constructs identity and develops community. Using 20th and 21st century case studies as well as local performances, the course teaches concrete frameworks for the study of performance. Students attend local performances—dance, theatre, and music, but also performance in everyday life, sports, public events, and more—analyzing them through writing and class discussion.
