Seminar offering students practical experience in research methods in Art History. Focuses on a specialized theme of the professor's choice, and incorporates extensive reading in a specific field of Art History and the completion of a substantial research paper.

3 undergraduate hours. No graduate credit. May be repeated if topics vary.

Section Info:
Mexican Muralism. This seminar dives into the origins, forces, and creative boom behind the mural paintings that defined the Mexican Mural Renaissance of the early 20th century. While spotlighting the movement’s most iconic figures such as Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, we also explore the overlooked contributions of women muralists and the lasting impact on later artists and artistic collectives. Prntmking: Hist, Tech, Meaning
Section Info:
Printmaking: History, Technique, Meaning. Coinciding with the exhibition “Imagination, Faith, and Desire: Art and Agency in European Prints, 1475-1800” at the Krannert Art Museum, this seminar will chart the development of printmaking in Europe and the Americas during the late medieval, early modern, and modern periods and the global diffusion of printed images produced in those areas. Themes addressed will include technical innovation, reproducibility and reproduction, invention and transmission, the ontology of the printed image, prints and global capitalism, and the representation of race in printed images.
