Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.
Introduces the fundamentals of planning for pedestrian and bicycle transportation. Students will learn about the benefits and challenges of planning for walking and cycling; the roles of plans, policies, and infrastructure in supporting active travel; key elements of infrastructure design; methods to assess safety and access; and processes to create, implement, and evaluate plans and programs. Activities will include interactive discussions, hands-on exercises such as safety audits and site analyses, and a client-based project addressing real-world community needs.
3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Credit will not be given for UP 434 if credit was given for UP 494-LB in Fall 2018.
