Topic: Indigenous Sovereignty in the United States Description: This readings seminar course focuses on the historical development of the concept of American Indian tribal sovereignty in the United States. Students will explore Indigenous and Western influences, legal limitations and opportunities, and political, economic, and cultural meanings of tribal sovereignty. The course includes perspectives on Indigenous sovereign rights and efforts in Hawai‘i and U.S. Pacific holdings.
