Approaches to the Study of Religion

Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.

Introduction to the principal themes and debates that have animated the academic study of religion since the late nineteenth century. The relationship of religion to society, the economy, the state, culture, tradition, colonialism, and secularism are all considered, drawing on several different disciplines, including anthropology, sociology, philosophy and history.

3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours.
