Examines law from a family perspective and how the family in American society is impacted by and interacts with the legal system. Explores the concept of family from a legal perspective, as well as common family law issues including marriage, divorce, child custody, and family violence. Students will discover how family science research can impact case law and legislation, the impacts of such legislation on families, and the relationships between the fields of family science, law, and public policy.

Prerequisite: HDFS 120 or SOC 100. Not intended for students with Freshman class standing.
