Section Title:
Gender in Games
Section Info:
In this course, we will explore the history of gender in videogames, especially the ways by which movements like #GamerGate and #RaceFail09 constituted a coordinated effort to solidify videogames as an exclusive domain of hegemonic masculinity. Also, we will consider representational, embodied and ludic elements of games in their relation to discrimination. Throughout the course, we will engage with games designed by people whose experience of marginalization within the industry, and ‘real-life’ are transforming games, along with our perceptions, and expectations of them.
