Section Title:
Casual Inference w Machine Lrn
Section Info:
Causal inference is crucial in many scenarios, such as when offering interventions intended to improve education or when making policy decisions that are expected to cause certain changes. However, conducting a randomized controlled trial to answer every research question is often infeasible, or even unethical. Moreover, even with randomization there may be causal issues to explore like heterogeneous treatment effects. This course will cover perspectives on causality and cutting-edge machine learning methods for causal inference in situations with non-linear effects, heterogeneous effects, large numbers of confounds, natural experiments, and even observational data. PREREQUISITES: Students should have some previous stats experience (EPSY 580 or similar, or approval of instructor). Students should also have familiarity with loading and manipulating datasets in R or Python.

Sense of Belonging Diverse Pop
Section Info:
Sense of Belonging among Diverse Populations: In this course students will learn theories and concepts from psychology and related fields concerning sense of belonging and its association with important life outcomes. What does it mean to feel like an outcast or feel like you fit in, and how does this feeling impact human behavior and performance? The course will emphasize the cultural development of sense of belonging among diverse populations (e.g., BIPOC communities, first-generation college students) and across the lifespan (e.g., Native reservation high school students, older adults).
