Intensive study of special topics in musicology, whether historical, ethnomusicological, or interdisciplinary in approach; seminar format.

4 graduate hours. No professional credit. May be repeated to a maximum of 8 hours. Prerequisite: MUS 528A or consent of instructor. For graduate students in Music; this course is intended for performance and composition majors, especially DMA students seeking advanced musicology credit.

Women in American Music
Section Info:
Topic: "WOMEN IN AMERICAN MUSIC." This course will examine the role of women in American music composition, performance, and education since the nineteenth century. Composers studied will include Amy Beach, Ruth Crawford, Florence Price, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, Tania Leon, and Julia Wolfe. Additionally, we will look at gender and music patronage in American cultural institutions to the present. This course will take place fully online and asynchronously using Canvas. Meets with MUS 414.
