This course offers students a comprehensive understanding of the role that big tech companies and their platforms and products play in daily life. Among topics covered include hashtag activism, digital surveillance, algorithmic inequality and search bias, data privacy, monopoly and anti-trust, changes to the news industry, and the “internet yuck” of hate speech and harassment.
