Advanced Sculpture Special Topic: Trace/Time/Terrain. This course will focus on aspects of place and time through a sampling of recent writing and films that examine ideas about historical and biological entanglement ecologies, the thick present, speculative futures, geological time scales, deep time, pandemic time, loss, extinctions, hauntology, and other relevant ideas that help us navigate this unfolding moment of cultural and environmental chaos. Using 2D, 3D, and 4D methods, we’ll make the objects, relics, artifacts, props, maps, collections, dioramas, and environments that will culminate in a series of highly detailed installations that tell stories about place across various modalities of time, speculative narratives, histories, materiality, and memory. Artists and designers of all kinds are needed to contribute a multiplicity of background experiences, expertise, and material strategies. Graduate students from units across FAA are welcomed and encouraged! Meets with ARTS 456, 1FLAGG 50.
