Topic: Curating the Ancient World. This seminar is intended to introduce graduate students in the history of art, archaeology, and related disciplines to a broad range of issues associated with curatorial practice, through critical readings, case studies, field trips to local museums, and discussions with curators, area specialists, and other museum professionals. Students will have the opportunity for hands-on experience with collections through a final exhibition project, for which they will also conduct thematic and object-based research, prepare descriptive labels, and write catalogue entries as part of their curatorial practice. Students will gain understanding of the complexity of studying and working with visual/material culture in the context of public display.
