Readings in authors or special topics chosen by the instructor from the entire extant literature in Latin.

3 undergraduate hours. 3 or 4 graduate hours. May be repeated. Prerequisite: Three years of college Latin or equivalent; consent of instructor.

In this class we will read the entirety of book 4, which begins with instructions on the keeping of bees before ultimately digressing into the famous recounting of the mythological tale of Orpheus and Eurydice. Attention will be paid to reading Vergil’s Latin with pleasure and understanding. Selections from earlier books of the poem will also be read. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
