This course will meet June 13-18 only. The course offering is 1-3 variable credit hours. The workshop begins at 6:00 PM on June 13 and concludes at 2:00 PM on June 18. Join other choral educator-conductors in a five-day workshop led by Dr. Andrew Megill, Chair of the University of Illinois Choral area. As a conductor, you will experience daily lecture-demonstrations, podium time, and personal consultation with Dr. Megill. This course will meet June 20-25 only. The course offering is 1-4 variable credit hours. The workshop will begin at 6:00 PM on June 20 and conclude after the evening concert on June 25. Spend a week studying, rehearsing, and performing works of Johann Sebastian Bach with some of America's leading experts in Baroque music. Violinist Nancy Wilson and conductor Andrew Megill lead the faculty. The week will end with a performance with a period instrument orchestra. Other faculty include Baroque violinist Leah Nelson and Fuma Sacra, a professional vocal ensemble whose performances of Baroque and Renaissance music have "left the audience gasping in amazement." Topic: "PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE––SEMINAR IN WIND BAND LITERATURE." This course will explore the past, present, and future of wind literature. Topics to be discussed include wind literature that has become a part of the canon and possible reasons this music continues to be performed today; current trends in wind music; and the future of this genre with an emphasis on how to identify music of quality and how to support and encourage diversity within your programming through collaboration and commissioning. Students may take this course more than once, as repertoire is rotated.
