Description: Explores how life was lived by Jewish women and men through the past three centuries, and what it meant to be modern in different Jewish communities. The course will draw attention to Non-European Jewish communities and focus in part on Middle Eastern Jewries and the lives of Jews in the Muslim world. We will explore concepts such as colonialism, Muslim civilization, Middle Eastern multi-culturalism and many others in the context of Jewish lives, compare the daily realities of European and non-European Jewries and analyze the impact of the events that took place in the 20th century on Jewish live and diversity.
