Broadcast Meteorology
Section Info:
Introduction to the fundamentals of preparing and presenting radio and television weather broadcasts. Emphasis is placed on the gathering of meteorological information, preparing weather forecasts for broadcast, explaining various meteorological phenomena, preparing professional weather graphics, and developing presentation skills. Special topics include science/environmental reporting (including climate change) and severe weather coverage. Please note: This section will be taught asynchronous (no live sessions). Course will be managed through Compass.

Data Storytelling
Section Info:
This class introduces students to the development process for creating data stories: Acquire, clean, analyze, and visualize data using various data journalism tools (Excel, Open Refine, SQL, and Python). It also covers key concepts in ethics for data journalism and discusses other burgeoning computational technology used in the field. Prerequisites: Basic programming skills are preferred, as some course materials are built on Python and Jupyter Notebook. Students will need to finish a 15-min assessment, involving basic knowledge of software and arithmetic, a week before class starts. Prerequisite: STAT 100, STAT 107 or permission of instructor. Please note: This section will have synchronous (live) sessions. Eligible for PR minor.
