Animals in Literature
Section Info:
A selection of literary texts from Greece. Rome and the subsequent Western tradition in which animals are protagonists or narrators. Readings from Plutarch, Ovid, Apuleius; Anna Sewell's Black Beauty; Jack London's Call of the Wild. We conclude by looking beyond the Western tradition to Native American texts, including Louise Erdrich's The Antelope Wife. Mix of asynchronous and synchronous meetings.

Section Info:
In this class you will study the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World: how they were made, what they meant to the people who built them, and how they have influenced the modern world. Field trips to architectural wonders on the UIUC campus will enrich our understanding of the past. Students taking the class from afar will have the opportunity to study monuments in their own location. Assessments include reflective writing and collaborative projects but no exams.
