Credit: 3 hours.
Fundamentals of elastic, viscoelastic and plastic deformation of materials, elementary theory of statics and dynamics of dislocations; strengthening mechanisms; behavior of composites; fracture and fatigue behavior; fundamentals of thermal behavior: heat capacity, thermal expansion and conductivity; effects of thermal stress.
3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Credit is not given for both MSE 406 and either ME 430 or TAM 424. Prerequisite: MSE 206; credit or concurrent registration in MSE 201 and 401.
