Section Title:
New Materialism & the Environm
Section Info:
The seminar explores the humans, plants, animals, and material things that make the environment, asking about the distinctions that determine how we categorize living and non-living objects. We recognize that humans have shaped the environment, but to what extent do nonhuman objects shape human society? Exploring the new materialism, posthumanism, actor-network theory, and deep ecology, the seminar asks how the human body and the environment are simultaneously material and social, and what is at stake in such a perspective.
