Asynchronous lecture with synchronous online lab. Nowadays there is high a high demand to solve complex problems, which in an urban environment, via the understanding and interpretation of large amounts of data. Data analysis, visualization, or even the integration of artificial intelligence are expected skills for planners or policymakers. This course provides students with the basic skills and tools of data science in the urban planning field. For this entry-level R based course, we will introduce basic data science concepts, techniques, and tools through hands-on projects and case studies in the planning domain. Topics will include open data collection, data cleansing, exploratory data analysis, basic statistics, mapping, data visualization, etc.
