Section Info:
TOPIC: History of he French Lexicon. This course is an introduction to the structure and social history of the French lexicon for advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The course will adopt a cultural perspective, proceeding from the Gallo-Roman period to contemporary French. Structural and theoretical topics from derivational morphology and lexicology (e.g. word formation processes, borrowings, argot, jargon, dialectal variation in dictionaries) will be selected for each time period. The course is taught in French and English, with readings in both languages.
