What is knowledge and what are the limits of what we can know? What is the mind and how does it relate to the external world? On what does our continued personal identity depend? Are there both material and mental substances, or is all of reality of one kind?This course will investigate these and related questions through classic texts of 17th and 18th century thinkers, from rationalists (Descartes, Leibniz) and empiricists (Locke, Berkeley, Hume) to Kant.
