FR 578 - 1968 Redux In this seminar we will study the relationship between new wave cinema, nouveau roman, and the May 1968 uprisings. Primary focus on narrative art in novels and films. Topics include authority & authorship; mass consumerism; social class; family & heritage; feminism & sexuality; political and artist groups. Works by Debord, Duras, Godard, Sarraute, Perec, Rivette, Robbe-Grillet, Rohmer, Truffaut, Varda. In addition to close readings, students will prepare presentations that mine the digital archive of the "50 years later" commemoration: posters, flyers, tracts, photographs, documentaries, political speeches, and media coverage. Course conducted in French. Wednesday, 3:00-5:20pm
