Section Title:
Curating Performance
Section Info:
Topic: Curating Performance with Race, Gender, and Sexuality. In this internship course, students will learn about the art of curating performance, in particular, aesthetic work that extends an understanding of race, gender, and sexuality. Students will visit diverse sites, such as museums, galleries, institutes, to gather insight into unique curatorial practices in preparation from their collective exhibition in La Estacion Gallery, located in the Department of Latina/Latino Studies. The Gallery’s exhibitions highlight and privilege experimental work by queer, Latinx, minoritarian artists. As such, students will be asked to work closely with contemporary curators across schools and visiting artists and scholars, exploring how to ethically engage with and display challenging artwork that informs political life via aesthetic means. This internship course will teach students how to work creatively, administratively, practically, and theoretically, always moving from a space of critical and curious inquiry. Requirements: Students may have some training in the arts, a great love for art, or consent of instructor; or a graduate student.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
