Music Business and Marketing
Section Info:
Decoding Dr. Dre: Exploring CS+X in Hip Hop, cultural engineering, and technology entrepreneurship.” Decoding Dr. Dre is a course designed to explore the question “is there a science to beat making that leads or can lead to cultural iterations in various forms of computer science, information technology, robotics, coding, algorithmic thinking, entrepreneurship, engineering, and design." The premise is to provide students with a case study subject, Dr. Dre, a historically successful Street Dj, music producer, engineer, entrepreneur, brand builder, business owner, and philanthropist in order to explore how he became the cornerstone of one of the biggest acquisitions in CS+X; the Apple & Beats, merger. By posing this question students are provided a platform to discover the role and influence that cultural wealth from marginalized communities i.e. ghetto spaces play in tech. Moreover, students will depart the course with a deeper understanding of their own cultural wealth in potential applied learning projects in computer science and production software development, sound engineering interface exploration, coding, robotics, social media data analytics, and market research. Restrictions: Music Tech and BME students or permission of instructor.
