Halls of Fame
Section Info:
A three hour field based course that will immerse students in an active learning environment focused on professional development in recreation, sport and tourism industries. Content will emphasize the impact on recreation, sport and tourism on a communities social, economic, and environmental development. The academic experience will observation and participation with leading US based recreation, sport, and tourism destinations and interaction with related professional and community leaders. The tour is scheduled for May 22 - June 2 and will include opportunities at 6 internationally known Halls of Fame (Rock and Roll, Boxing, Basketball, Baseball, Football, and the NCAA), an Olympic site (Lake Placid, NY), Niagara Falls National Park, and the corporate tourism agencies of Hershey, PA. Field experience will be preceded by a second 8 weeks (Spring 2017) orientation where student will be provided a relevant academic context and participate in tour orientation activities. For approval, email mraycraf@illinois.edu. Course Fees ($2700) will include charter bus, hotels, faculty oversight, admissions and several meals. Students will be responsible for personal expenses.
