Section Title:
Chronic Disease Self-MGT
Section Info:
This course has an experiential workshop format and students will be required to actively participate in a manualized wellness and healthy lifestyle program, the Stanford CDSMP program (6 weeks out of the 8 week course). Prior experience with a chronic health condition in one's own life or in a close friend or family member is beneficial but not required. Students will participate in a pre and post evaluation on the effectiveness of the program as part of the class and asked to provide feedback about the CDSMP program experience overall as a potential avenue for promoting student wellness in the SSW and on campus. Pending IRB approval, students will be invited to consent to the use of their responses for research purposes, but this consent is not required to take the course. [I am working on IRB approval now in order to use these data for research purposes; if a student does not consent then I would simply not include his/her data in any analysis for dissemination.] Attendance at all 8 classes is required. For more information on the CDSMP please see http://patienteducation.stanford.edu/programs/cdsmp.html
