Section Title:
Digital Photo. for Everyone
Section Info:
Just about everyone has some sort of camera these days but few, it seems, think much about why they are taking any given picture. Digital photography can play a major role in any undergraduate research project and the impact of images can be heightened with solid understanding of the foundations and methodology of the medium. This course explores creative artistry as a means toward personal expression and scholarship. Research, as defined by the University of Illinois, encompasses this broader definition of scholarship to include creative works. In this course we will go beyond "traditional research" and produce "creative works" as scholarship and for fun. This is a lecture course where hands-on digital photography assignments will help you put class material into practice. Digital photography will be explained and explored through presentation, discussion and critique. No prior photography experience is needed. You must provide your own camera and have access to a computer with a photo editing app like Apple iPhoto or Microsoft Photo Gallery for example. This will be a fun course where you will gain insight into your creativity.
