French Civilization I In this course we study the history of France from its beginnings to the end of the eighteenth century with an emphasis on social and cultural history. The goal is to provide students with a thorough understanding of major social developments and cultural movements that both characterize pre-revolutionary France and have left their indelible mark on modern French society. Readings and class discussion in French.
