Reading and interpretation of selected French novels and short narratives from all periods. History and analysis of narrative literature as a genre. Topics will vary.

May be repeated to a maximum of 6 hours. Prerequisite: FR 207, FR 208, FR 209, and FR 210; or equivalents.

Fall 2016 FR 311 :A diverse selection of recent inventive and representative novels written in French. Focus on narrative strategies related to subjectivity, form and style, including underlying social and identity issues conditioned by multiculturalism, late capitalism and (hyper)modernity. Readings intermix short stories and full-length fiction works with some literary criticism selected in order to enhance the collaborative understanding and evaluation of the novels' functions, values and audience
