Seminar-style practicum in the teaching of undergraduate courses in Western and non-western music for musicology and non-musicology majors. Intensive review and discussion of pedagogical materials. Instruction in syllabus and lecture design, presentational and discussion styles, and use of multimedia and educational technology.

Prerequisite: Graduate musicology majors or consent of instructor.

Section Info:
This course examines approaches to teaching music history online for secondary, post-secondary, and general populations. Through selected readings, recorded lectures, model course pages, peer evaluations, and online group discussions, students explore best practices for designing, building, and evaluating online educational materials related to music history topics. The course will be run completely online through Compass, primarily asynchronously. Residency in Urbana-Champaign is not necessary to complete the course. > > For the four-credit option, students will create original project such as a syllabus, unit outline, evaluative materials, or recorded lecture incorporating educational technology, on a topic and for a population of their choice. The project will be due at the end of Summer II (i.e., late July). > NOTE: This course will be run completely online through Compass *
