1 hour. Graduate Seminar in Ecology. Topic: Theoretical Ecology and Models. This seminar will focus on the interplay between theoretical concepts and empirical research throughout the history of ecology. We will discuss foundational literature in theoretical ecology, with a focus on classic theoretical and conceptual models that changed the way we view and understand ecological systems. Readings, selected with student input, will be based around classic papers. Students will identify recent papers that build on, apply, or refute these classic ideas, either through developing new theoretical analyses or by connecting theory with new data, and identify how each paper has informed contemporary studies in ecology. Meets in 515 Morrill Hall.
