Research Methods in Journalism

Credit: 3 hours.

Introduction to social science principles of measurement, sampling, statistical inferences and logic of research design in collection, analysis and interpretation of information used in journalism and mass media.

Prerequisite: Completion of Quantitative Reasoning I requirement. JOUR 200 recommended, or graduate standing.

Credit: 3 hours Section Info: The course introduces students to the theoretical principles on which scientific research is based and the techniques for doing scientific research in journalism and mass communications. It provides the critical framework for evaluating numerical information reported in the media. Note: The JOUR 200 pre-requisite has been waived, however, students must complete a Quantitative Reasoning I course to be eligible to register for this course. Restriction(s): Not intended for students with Freshman or Sophomore class standing.
