MEETS IN 515 MORRILL HALL. Graduate Seminar in Ecology. Topic: Foundations of Ecology. Graduate students in ecology should be familiar with the historical roots of their discipline. This seminar will discuss the literature that laid the foundations of population, community and ecosystem ecology. Readings will based around classic papers published from the 1880s to the 1960s and compiled in Real and Brown (1991) Foundations of Ecology, Chicago University Press. Each week students will also identify recent papers that build on this legacy and provide their own commentaries on how classical work has informed, and continues to influence contemporary studies in ecology.
