Credit: 4 hours.

The major groups of arthropods and associated pathogens that affect the health and well-being of humans and other animals. Training will include identification, classification, methods of injury, habits, vector competence, and control of insects, ticks and mites that are predators, parasites, or vectors of disease. The course will examine and use both classical and molecular technologies to address epidemiological, ecological, and diagnostic factors associated with arthropod-borne diseases.

Graduate students required to write a term paper. Offered in alternate years. Prerequisite: One year college biology, IB 401; or consent of instructor.
