Introduction to applied action research within the social sciences and humanities with the subject of research selected from partner organizations in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and surrounding communities. Students establish a research question, conduct fieldwork using qualitative and/or quantitative methods, and complete a project of sufficient quality for publication or presentation.

May be repeated to a maximum of 12 hours in subsequent terms. Prerequisite: Junior standing or consent of instructor.

Arts Experiences for Incarcerated Youth. In this course students design and facilitate a weekly arts (music, visual art, dance, drama) experience for youth detained at the Champaign County Detention Center. Course is intended for music education majors, art education majors, theatre majors, dance majors, and community arts minors, but all majors are welcome to enroll. Weekly class MEETS AND IS HELD AT THE DETENTION CENTER.

Project: Planning for Sr. Housing and Services in the North First Street Neighborhood Focus is on the provision of housing and services for elderly residents of the North 1st Street area, a city priority. Students in the course will develop visions of the future for the area of North 1st Street between Church and Washington. No prior knowledge of housing design, fine arts or urban planning is required. Students will present their work to the public in a required symposium.
