Section Title:
Feldenkrais Perf Artists II
Section Info:
26 different Awareness Through Movement (ATM) lessons will be offered. In the meditative atmosphere of an ATM lesson, you will be verbally guided through a sequence of gentle movements intended to help develop greater sensitivity to how you move, think, and learn. With a focus on the relationship between movement and thought, increased mental awareness and creativity, these lessons are helpful for people at all levels of ability including those who are extremely healthy and those with serious injuries. If you experience chronic pain or have had specific injuries, this class will offer an opportunity to learn how to let go of habitual holding patterns and allow for new movement patterns to emerge. Specifically, the movement lessons will revolve around freeing the hip-sockets, releasing the back, and exploring the pelvis as an engine for all movement. Aside from the kinesthetic benefits that will be experienced in this class, we will also discuss favorite Feldenkrais topics such as creativity, spontaneity, learning, the power of visualization, and the use of attention. The Feldenkrais Method: Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) developed this sophisticated learning system which uses self-awareness and movement to produce neuromuscular changes noted to improve human conditions in the mind and body. TheFeldenkrais Method is highly regarded as an enjoyable sensory-motor approach to learning and is based upon the evolutionary development of the human nervous system and the innate capacity of the human brain to learn.

Section Title:
Experimental Fashion II
Section Info:
This course will be an exploration of fabric and fashion as a medium for artists, designers and performers. Utilizing a variety of materials - traditional, non-traditional, found, borrowed, or bought - students will construct identities, disguises, body extensions, and wearable sculptural elements, as well as physical and conceptual connections to their surroundings and to one another. Demonstrations will include various methods of fabric manipulation, with an emphasis on sewing (hand and machine) as a means of construction. In collaboration with the Department of Dance students will create works to be worn for November Dance, a concert to be held at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
