This course runs the second eight weeks of the Fall semester, October 22, 2012 to December 12, 2012. The off campus component runs January 2-13, 2013.The overall focus of this course is global justice. As part of this course, students will take a ten-day trip to Morocco. The purpose of the Morocco trip is to gain some basic familiarity with one developing country, and with the complex challenges involved in development. While in Morocco, students will visit the cities of Fes and Chefchawn. In each location, students will participate in meetings and excursions with local organizations designed to provide background into Moroccan culture and insight into one specific challenge related to development: health care. Students will also be responsible for completing assigned readings on the ethics of development, global justice and health care. There will be daily discussions following the planned activities about these readings and their implications in the context of Morocco. Students who enroll in this course are required to take PHIL435-Social Philosophy: Global Justice in Spring 2013.
