Exercise and Disease
Section Info:
This course will focus on the impact of physical activity and exercise on the onset and progression of a variety of chronic and infectious diseases. Topics may include atherosclerosis, kidney disease, obesity/diabetes, influenza, autoimmune diseases, and others. We will consider the pathophysiology underlying these diseases as well as the effects of regular exercise on disease in humans. Special attention will be paid to inflammation as a causative agent underlying each condition. The course will include lectures and discussion of primary research literature. Recommended prerequisite: A or B in KIN 150, MCB 150, or equivalent; KIN 352; or MCB 250 and/or MCB 252.
