Introduction to social science principles of measurement, sampling, statistical inferences and logic of research design in collection, analysis and interpretation of information used in journalism and mass media.

Prerequisite: Completion of Quantitative Reasoning I and JOUR 200 or graduate standing.

The course introduces students to the theoretical principles on which scientific research is based, the techniques for doing scientific research in journalism and mass communications and the critical framework for evaluating numerical information reported in the media. Note: Please note the stated prerequisites. The registration system may temporarily allow you to select this course even if you do not meet the prerequisites, but it eventually will catch this problem and cancel your registration, by which time it may be difficult for you to find an alternative.
