Section Title:
Play Reading Between the Lines
Section Info:
This course introduces students to the process of 'table work' in play production--that process in which the content and themes of a play are examined and discussed in great detail among a cast in preparation for production. While this process is often used in the professional theatre, it is rarely studied or employed as extensively in amateur or collegiate theatre. In this class, students will be assigned roles to study and discuss while reading several plays in great detail as if we were preparing the play for production. The class will meet one day a week for three hours (Tuesdays, 6-9pm) in order to provide us with uninterrupted access to the play and the analysis process. Not only is this course a way to examine and study plays in collaborative detail, it gives students access to a vital process often only experienced in professional theatre companies. No acting experience is required, though a desire to act and an interest in delving deeply into a play is a must. Plays will be decided later, but will come from the canon of major works commonly performed in professional theaters. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshman. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
Restriction(s):
Restricted to First Time Freshman students.
