Narco-Narratives Topic title: "Narco-Narratives: Stories from the Hemispheric Drug Wars" This course will focus on the ways in which recent cultural production from Latin America and the United States have represented the rise of the hemispheric drug trade. Some of the questions we will ask throughout the course include: How have different authors 'mapped' the circulation of drugs, money and people between the U.S. and Latin America? How have texts and films envisioned connections between legal and illegal economies? And which narrative resolutions and/or visions of the future are possible in light of the incredible violence generated by transnational drug wars? Course program includes novels by Cormac McCarthy, Leslie Marmon Silko, Roberto Bolano and Laura Restrepo, and films by Steven Soderbergh and Luis Estrada. Meets with CWL 441.
