In order to better understand contemporary production the class will also examine important representatives of the Franco-Belgian tradition throughout the 20th century (Cohl, Herge, Goscinny & Uderzo, Laloux, etc). The course includes, but is not limited to cases of adaptation. BD include: Tardi, La Debauche; Bilal, La Trilogie Nikopol,; Satrapi, Persepolis; David B, L Asencion du Haut Mal, Sfar, Le Chat du Rabin, Crecy, Periode glaciere. Films include: Volckmann, Renaissance: Paris 2054; Ocelot, Kiriou et la sorciere; Bilal, Immortal (ad vitam); Chomet, Les Triplettes de Belleville; Besson, Arthur et les minimoys. Theoretical readings include: Peeters, Groensteen, Faure. Secondary/Historical readings include: Screech, Beaty.
