Credit: 4 hours.

Interrelationship of biological, emotional, learning and social aspects of mental disorders, and implications for the patient/client, family, and community. Focus on diagnostic assessment and biopsychosocial treatment methods including psychosocial treatment methods, medications, and social work interventions. Students also learn to recognize the potential for bias that can result when assessments are applied across cultural, ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender and other groups.

Prerequisite: SOCW 451.

Academic Outreach restrictions and assessments apply, see http://www.outreach.uiuc.edu. This online course that begins January 26th and ends May 4th includes four face-to-face class sessions at the College of Medicine in Peoria. The site-based classes are scheduled to be held in room A-200-2 on January 26th, February 23rd, Mar 30th and May 4th (Monday evenings) from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Students will also meet online using the Elluminate conferencing system on four other Monday evenings.
