Coral Reef Field Ecology
Section Info:
An introduction to the taxonomic groups, identification, and natural history of the vertebrates and invertebrates that inhabit and form coral reefs. Ecosystem processes and conservation of coral reefs will also be discussed. One 1 hour lecture per week plus the week-long field trip to Belize at the end of the semester. The field trip will be Sunday May 17-Sunday May 24, 2009. Cost of the field trip is estimated to be $1850 and will be borne by the student. Prerequisite: IB 150 and consent of instructor. Topic: Microsatellite Analyses in Wildlife & Fisheries. The course focuses on development of microsatellite loci for wildlife and fisheries studies. Graduate students developing such a project and have funding to purchase/expend on consumables. Course format will include lectures, guest speakers, student presentations, discussions and work sessions. The course will meet at Forbes 2064 (I-building).
