Dancing Black Popular Cult

Credit: 3 hours.

Introduces students to black dance aesthetics and its interconnectedness with American popular culture. By exploring its cultural, political and historical roots, coupled with theoretical concepts of "the popular" and ties to the vernacular, the course will be organized around significant markers that have shaped black dance's development.
