Research Seminar

Credit: 4 hours.

Advanced research course that develops skills for evaluating social work practice and/or social service programs through the use of group research designs, survey research methods, qualitative research methods, program evaluation models, and related research techniques. The course assumes students have had previous exposure to both research methods and statistical analyses through the completion of a statistics course and SOCW 427 or an equivalent research course. This course has two types of seminar, one focusing on experimental and survey design, another focusing on program evaluation.

Prerequisite: SOCW 427 or equivalent.

This online course section, for students in the Peoria cohort, starts August 26 and ends December 9. The Elluminate online conferencing system will be used for synchronous (real-time) class sessions and there will also be 4 face-to-face class sessions held at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine in Peoria in room A200-2. Both the Elluminate online sessions and site-based classes will be held on Wednesdays evenings. The face-to face classes will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. The initial face-to-face meeting will occur on the first day of class, August 26, and the other three site-based meetings are tentatively scheduled for October 7, December 2 and December 9.
