This course offers a brief overview of the current problems faced by different legal systems around the world. We will cover the constitutional and political institutions, the court system, the production of legislation, the legal profession, and current legal debates in different jurisdictions. We will consider common law (England and Wales, Canada and Australia), civil law (France, Italy, Germany and Japan), and hybrid systems (Israel, Quebec and Scotland). We will also discuss emerging economies (Brazil, India, and China). First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
