This course introduces students to field experience in internships and service work. Students work through a self-assessment of goals, skills and knowledge, and research internships/service opportunities that match their goals and strengths. In addition to preparing application materials for specific opportunities, students will make a plan on how they can connect their field experience to their academic program through a research project. The course ends with a discussion on developing and applying leadership skills, such as taking initiative and teamwork, during the field experience.

Section Info:
Vietnam at the Movies. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshman in the Unit One or Global Crossroads Living-Learning Communities. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course. In this film and discussion course students will examine how the Vietnam War and the concurrent "War at Home"/Anti-War Movement" have been reflected, represented, and/or revised in Hollywood and documentary productions. Following film showings, students will write short response papers which will be submitted and discussed at the next class session, prior to the viewing of the next film in the series. Some readings will be provided by the instructor.
