Section GV: The Global Village: Viewing the World Through Children's Literature. This course will use children's literature to explore the world through children's eyes. Students will examine different cultures, communities, families, and customs from around the world through the genres of picture books, contemporary realistic fiction, nonfiction, biography/autobiography, and poetry. Students will also read about some of the issues and problems facing the world's children, such as war, poverty, disease, and the environment. Learning will take place primarily through reading and discussions. First Year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to Freshmen. Students should only enroll in one Discovery course.

Reading & Writing Autobiography, 3 hours. Reading and writing autobiography will offer freshman time to read autobiographies/memoirs of the lives of others (if possible drawing upon the published works of Pioneers in their field) as they begin a new phase of their own lives. This course will offer an opportunity to read, write and learn from the lives of others. First year Discovery Program Course. Registeration restricted to freshman.
